Epilepsy Thrust Chris Underwater

Faith, love and guts helped him surface.

Chris Maxwell, pastor, teacher, was a well organized, analytical, driven man before he lost all references to his world when epilepsy struck. His book Underwater draws attention to the plight of the over three million Americans of all ages suffering from the disease, as well as those suffering from brain injury and related conditions. In it he recounts his minute by minute struggle to reorient himself to the world, a struggle aided by his own discipline and courage, the love and support of family, doctors and friends, and the moment by moment reliance he maintains on the God who calls us to lean on Him in faith. In this interview with the War Cry, Chris reaches out to encourage anyone afraid of what might be ahead.
